The very name of the game gives us an idea of what it is about. Coming up in the 70s, Video Poker is something all the gamblers love to have a shot on. Much like a slots machine, video poker is played on a very similar computer controlled console. The game is based on the classic 5 card draw poker, wherein you are given 5 cards, out of which you may exchange one or some cards, and then the chart for different winning combinations is checked to see if your hand has won you a fortune or at least something. These combinations are displayed on what we call as the “pay table”.

The combinations are as follows, in the respective order of how rare a chance is to get the particular combination, from lowest rarity to highest rarity:

  • Pair of Jacks
  • Two Pairs
  • Three of a kind
  • Straight (5 card sequence of different suits)
  • Flush (any 5 cards of the same suit)
  • Full house (A pair and three of a kind, together)
  • Four of a kind
  • Straight Flush (5 Card sequence of the same suit)
  • Royal Flush (10, J, Q, K, and A of the same suit)

The rarer the combination is, the better the return is. The cards, from a virtual deck, are dealt randomly so that no combinations can be predicted. 25,98,960 is the number of possibilities of combinations off of a 52 caed regular deck, wow! That huge number in itself makes it insanely difficult for you to guess what your next combination will be, but what makes it impossible altogether, is RNG, i.e. Random Number Generation. This RNG keeps running even when the machine isn’t hosting a player. Sick mechanisms, I know. The best combination, i.e. the Royal Flush, has a 1:40,000 chance of showing up on your screen.

The best part about video poker that attracts everyone, is that there is a 95% chance of getting a return of 100% of your money. But why there is this that 5% chance of losing also? This is because no one comes to play a single hand of this much loved game.

Most people, experts at Video Poker, suggest that you always bet 5 credits to maximize your payout. People believe that the longer you play, the better is the chance of making it big, because as shared above, the Royal Flush is very rare, so one hour is simply not enough.

It is always said in casinos, that the house has the edge but Video Poker is an exception, with the chances of winning, really staked high. The old school video poker machines, allow you to make a maximum bet of 5 credits, whilst the modern day ones may allow upto a 100 credits per bet, so, whenever making a bet, always carefully examine the machine else you may end up going all in without realizing.

Now that you know the game better than before, go and have a shot at it right away and earn yourself the “millionare” status! (well, maybe)
